REPUBLIC OF CONGO CULTURAL MONTH
(MAY 02ND, 2014 TO MAY 31st, 2014)

Introduction:

This year (2014), the Republic of Congo will hold its first cultural week in the Washington, D.C. As part of our cultural month (May 02nd, 2014 to May 31st, 2014) themed, “ Bringing Congo to the Heart of America,” the Republic of Congo aims to promote its cultural image in the DMV area ( Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia) through a series of events. All friends and strangers to the Republic of Congo are cordially invited.

  1. Exhibition from the National Painting School of the Republic of Congo at the Touchstone Gallery in Washington, D.C. ( Starting on May 02nd, 2014) :

    The Exhibition will last the entire month of May 2014 (May 02nd, 2014 to June 01st, 2014). During the exhibition, different sculptures and paintings from the National Painting School of the Republic of Congo which also known as the Painting School of Poto-Poto will be showcased. The exhibition theme is, “Bringing Congo to the Heart of America.”

    The National Painting School of Poto-Poto is one of the first painting schools in Sub-Saharan Africa that date back to the colonial era and has proved to be a landmark for Congo’s cultural heritage.

    During the exhibition opening on May 02nd, 2014, the Embassy Staff will make a short presentation on Bantu Art from the Republic of Congo. Through the different paintings and other art works exhibited, the Republic of Congo will offer rich information to the public about its cultural diversity and cultural wealth.

  2. Passport DC (Embassy Tour) on May 03rd, 2014: Passport DC opens doors to international cultural opportunities. Activities will include musical performances, dance, cultural demonstrations, food samplings, language classes, video and technology displays, and more, both inside and outside of Embassy buildings. In a single day, visitors will able to experience and learn about the Republic of Congo and its distinguished culture.

  3. Exhibition of Congolese Arts from the National Painting School of Poto-Poto at the Embassy of the Republic of Congo. The theme retained is, “Bringing Congo to the Heart of America.”
