Fire at the ammunition depot in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo

The Embassy of the Republic of Congo to the United States of America has the regret to announce that a serious fire has occurred at the ammunition depot of the Congolese Armed Forces situated in Mpila, Brazzaville (Republic of Congo), on Sunday, March 04th, 2012, killing several people and wounding thousands others.


The fire explosion, which has caused serious material damages, injuries and loss of several human lives, is not yet totally in control, despite all the ongoing efforts deployed by the Congolese government and the lull observed in the beginning of the late afternoon.


In this state of emergency, the Government of the Republic of Congo is committed to making all the necessary efforts to save lives and assist all the injured people to benefit from medical assistance.


As time is of essence, the Congolese government is making an appeal for international humanitarian and technical assistance to face this tragic situation.
